Victory for ‘Muslim Outreach’? Retired General Barred from Speaking at West Point

Eight years and three months ago, I wrote a column inspired by the furor over statements by General William Boykin attesting to the religious dimension of the so-called war on terror. The thought that there might be a religious dimension to Islamic terrorism is, absurdly and disastrously, the Big No-No-No of our [...]

Unreasonable Risk and Ill-Conceived Combat Missions Define Obama’s Afghanistan Strategy

As a consequence of that misplaced ethical concern for an inappropriately identified non-combatant population, they have unnecessarily endangered our forces and reduced their combat effectiveness by forcing them to consider the lives of these 'non-combatants' as superior to their own. This is the very definition of 'unreasonable risk'.

Operation Enduring and Unexamined Dementia, Cont’d

US Army and Afghan Army play volleyball in southwestern Kandahar in 2011. On Sunday, a similar match in Zabul province turned deadly when an Afghan Army member shot and killed one American, wounding three. — It would be most helpful for at least one of the GOP candidates to think long and [...]

Unconstitutional and Antithetical to the Founding Fathers: Ron Paul’s Proposed Refusal to Defend America

I hope that title caught everyone’s attention. Now, before the hysterical spamming starts, let me explain. As a proud and dedicated member of the Heritage Foundation, I agree that a strong defense must be the primary objective of our politicians. Over at their website, Heritage scholar Marion Smith warns that: there are a lot of folks—right and [...]

By 2016, Defense Will Increase by $50 Billion and Other Spending by $7 Trillion

It looks like the nation’s national security may soon take it in the shorts, a repeat of the 1990s but worse. Then, defense spending declined in real terms by a cumulative $300 billion from 1993-2000. At the same time, the major procurement accounts were under-funded by fully 40% according to a [...]

The United States Government’s Willful Ignorance Is Costing Soldiers’ Lives

Herschel Smith and I have had some lengthy conversations about this current war, the disposition of the enemy, their relationship with the civilian populations amongst whom they operate, and the substance of the religion they all claim to adhere to. Fundamentally, we agree. We have had some minor disagreements about strategy selections from time to time [...]

Egyptian Forces Storm Offices of Pro-Democracy Groups

Without a legal foundation akin to the U.S. Constitution guaranteeing the rights of the minority and a separation of powers (and a predominance of the Western political philosophies that inspired the Constitution), will the results of the “Arab Spring” in Egypt lead to anything but the transfer of power from one totalitarian entity to another? CAIRO [...]
