Unreasonable Risk and Ill-Conceived Combat Missions Define Obama’s Afghanistan Strategy

As a consequence of that misplaced ethical concern for an inappropriately identified non-combatant population, they have unnecessarily endangered our forces and reduced their combat effectiveness by forcing them to consider the lives of these 'non-combatants' as superior to their own. This is the very definition of 'unreasonable risk'.

British Officer Slams US Army on Growing MEDEVAC Debacle

While reading traffic in a closed forum between current and former military officers, I stumbled across this message from a British officer.  I’ve known him since the Iraq days, and he’s also served in Afghanistan.  He’s an honest and very smart officer, and so I pay close attention to him.  With [...]

Military Modernization: Back to the Future

President Barack Obama’s vision for modernizing the U.S. military is little more than an exercise in “back to the future.” Consider: Back in 2001, the armed forces were nearly a decade into positing what 21st-century warfare would entail. These considerations were based on notions set forth by the individual (military) services. They also considered how the [...]

Citizens Petitioning Congress on MEDEVAC Issue Getting the Runaround

The Army has been deceiving members of Congress about MEDEVAC issues in Afghanistan.  This poses a danger for civilian leadership who may run with the Army information, expecting accuracy in detail and in spirit, only to be ridiculed later. The U.S. Army expects to be putting battle-ready smartphones into the hands of soldiers by the middle of 2012.   It’s a secure version of the Android operating system.  The National Security Agency (NSA) needs to first certify that the communication links are adequately protected.   The biggest security concerns,  reports the Army Times,  ”are [...]

Note From Ranger Prosser: Army Cares More About Afghan People Than Soldiers

Many people remember Command Sergeant Major Robb Prosser.  Robb is the man who shot the man who shot Erik Kurilla.  This firefight is described in Gates of Fire. I spent about five months with his unit in Iraq, and so Robb later invited me with his unit in Afghanistan.  We were roommates in [...]

Dustoff Helicopters: Violating Geneva Conventions in Afghanistan

The US Army is today in flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions in Afghanistan.  This was first pointed out to me by a very smart, highly experienced senior military person.  Though he has never steered me wrong, this seemed a bit much.  And so over the past month I looked into [...]
