Victory in Afghanistan won't look like victory in Iraq, that's for sure. In Iraq, we measure victory in people going to work, drilling for oil, opening shops, working peacefully through their democratic representative government, free from violence, car bombs and IEDs for the most part. In Afghanistan, I suspect victory will be a bit uglier and murkier. Our war in Iraq's done more to break Al-Qaeda than Afghanistan ever did. Iraq became the roach motel of worldwide Islamic terrorism. They all checked in, they didn't check out.

We could lift Afghanistan out of poverty, if we were willing to permanently garrison a large American army there for the next ten years and invest billions of dollars. I don't think we have the will to do that, and I don't the Afghans have a strong enough sense of nationhood to sustain it if we did, not yet anyway.

ya cool. FW- 109 was a fine aircraft too- albeit for malevolent forces.
I love the sheer tenacity of the IAF/IDF/Israeli Navy. indomitable and fire tested. Our American forces have been tough and courageous and alot of good men/women have made multiple tours under fire. I live in major Army town and see lots of special licence plates for Purple Heart and Bronze and Silver Stars. 9 years. I'm souring on Afganistan. Not totally done, but close. I'd like hear what victory will look like.

Speaking of the Israeli Air Force, one picture that warmed my heart and reaffirmed my belief in divine justice was seeing the Israeli Star of David on the side of a Messerschmidt ME 109, bought by Israel from Czechoslovakia for their new air force during the War of Independence. Nothing's better than seeing Hitler's prize fighter used to secure the independence of a Jewish state.

This whole snafu tells me that this administration can't control anything. With the resources and alleged leverage we supposedly have by virtue of our power, getting our druthers regarding this mass murderer shouldn't have been such a stretch.

ya. That reminded me of other incidents involving the "Q man" and how we – as a country with R.W.R., a real president at the helm – set the famed "Black Aces" of the U.S. Navy loose on inferior Soviet hardware and inferior Libyan pilots. 1981 splash two Soviet Su-22's, then in 1989 – splash two more Libyan fighters, this time MiGs.

That *warms* my heart. Don't mess with the uber-professionals that are U.S.A.F./U.S. Army/U.S.N./U.S. Marines aviators – they'll flame your ass.
Put the outstanding and tough as nails Israeli Air Force up there too – they're the last gun-toting aerial dogfighters. Awesome.

I don't truly believe it was Obama's wish that al-Megrahi go free.

I just think that when push came to shove he revealed once again that he has the testicular fortitude of a field mouse, which is a fine trait for Scottish jurists, but not so good for wartime presidents. We all know Obama is weak. That's not news.

The bigger lesson is the UK and what happens to a society that becomes so progressive that it progresses right past the point of logic, justice, and rule of law to root itself firmly in the realm of utopian fantasy, only to be victimized by the world they've ceased to see, but a world that, nevertheless, has not ceased to BE.

We went from scaring Qaddafi out of his WMDs to aiding and abetting the Scots in letting a convicted terrorist who supposedly had a rendezvous with hell in three months, only to find out he'll likely last another decade.
