Milestones Without Celebrations: Obama’s War Cry
by William B. AllenThe most important passage in President Obama’s “end of war” speech declares that there are no longer “surrender ceremonies”, which he seems to interpret to mean that there are no longer “celebrations of victories.” Victory, he suggests, consists in the internal strength of the U. S. and its partners. ...

Kakistocracy Lesson #2 – Wimpy Diplomacy Allows The Release Of A Mass Murderer
(This is lesson #2 in our study of the Obama Kakistocracy – And for those who do not remember the definition; Kakistocracy – noun, government by the worst persons; a form of government in which the worst persons are in power.)

January of 2001, Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi was convicted of murdering 270 people who were aboard PanAm flight 103 that exploded over Lockerbie Scotland in December of 1988. Al Megrahi was sentenced to life in prison by a panel of Scottish judges.
Multiple appeals were filed seeking to overturn the decision of the Scottish courts. The usual legal wrangling was attempted, but the conviction and sentence seemed to be set in stone. And yet, as a second appeal was under consideration, it was announced that Mr. Al Megrahi had prostate cancer and the condition was terminal. Al Megrahi might have just three months to live. However the prostate cancer killing this mass murderer became the fortunate twist of fate needed to turn a life sentence into a first class ticket back to Tripoli.
It might be wise to remember that this latest development happened less than two months after President Obama’s “historic” speech in Cairo, Egypt. A new era of American diplomacy was just beginning, and our President was careful not to offend the Muslim world. The timing seemed to be perfect; the new President in America wanted his country to be “liked” again… Al Megrahi’s lawyers would ask for a medical release. America would grumble, but not object strongly enough to prevent Scotland from setting a convicted terrorist free.
Where was the leadership from our government on this one? Who was standing up and demanding that Al Megrahi serve his time? Did anyone in the Obama Administration recall that 189 Americans happened to be among the murdered 270 on PanAm 103? Are we expected to believe that America was kept in the dark as Scotland negotiated the release of a convicted murderer?
There were stories circulating about the release and then, on August 20, 2009, Scotland announces that Al Megrahi will be freed from prison and sent to back Libya where he will likely die from prostate cancer within three months. Not sent to a prison in Libya, no – he was going home to die. There was not even a house arrest condition attached to this deal. Mr Al Megrahi was the recipient of a “Get Out Of Jail Free Card”
The triumphant return to Libya of Al Megrahi was featured on televisions around the world.

One might argue that America has no standing in the Scottish legal system, but we did have 189 innocent citizens aboard that plane. I can assure you that those families will never forget the murder of their loved ones and the injustice done with the release of their killer.
By the way, Mr. Al Megrahi did not die within the prescribed 90 days of his release, and we’re hearing from his doctors that he may live another 10 years. Perhaps we should have modeled the new American Healthcare system after the Libyan system, they seem to have found a cure for terminal prostate cancer.
The American mobster John Gotti was convicted of many crimes, not the least of which was murdering 13 people. In 1992 he was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Ten years later Gotti died of throat cancer. . . in prison. After he was diagnosed and the diagnosis was deemed to be terminal, Gotti’s family begged and pleaded that the Dapper Don be released and allowed to spend his final days in a more dignified manner. Request denied. John Gotti died behind bars in 2002. Al Megrahi should have suffered the same fate.
