So WikiLeaks is at it again, oh joy. They have released tens of thousands of classified reports from the war in Afghanistan.  Yep you heard right, tens of thousands of classified documents. Now are these important examples of illegal activity, or malfeasance or some sort of whistle blowing? Nope, they are just the regular records of a difficult fight. So why are they now on WikiLeaks and the NY Times and several other “news” outlets? Hey you tell me.

WikiLeaks claims to be a great public service that exposes the evil that governments and corporations do. Well this is even weaker than their last steaming pile of dung which they called “Collateral Murder”. They took a video from an Apache gunship that happened to take out two reporters who were hanging out with insurgents in Iraq. They played it up as some horrific example of the US military’s callous disregard for civilians. Anyone with a clue could see that the reporters were not identifiable as such and that at least one of the gentle souls they were “embedded” with had an Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG). Now just to clarify, in Iraq if you are carrying an RPG, you might as well have a neon sign saying insurgent. The Apaches lit them up and rightfully so.

WikiLeaks showed they have an agenda and this is just more of the same. They are again claiming that they have evidence of the military indiscriminately slaughtering civilians. Hold on though, did I miss a memo? Wasn’t Gen. McChrystal taking all kinds of flak for our pussified Rules of Engagement that stop our troops from shooting pretty much anybody? Bottom line is there was no legitimate reason for the Wiki Wankers to leak these documents and no journalistic reason for the NY Times and the others to pretend that this qualifies as news. They are sensationalists trying to damage the US military and they have forfeited any right to claim that they serve the public good. The mission of our military during wartime deserves more respect than this and dumping a bunch of the sausage-making information on the internet is simply wrong.

In a Gallup poll of what institutions Americans respect the most the military regularly reigns supreme. This year with 71% saying they had a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in it. Journalists? 24% Even I can do that math.
