I lost ALL respect for Gates after watching him stand behind the thug in our White House. No normal American would continue to follow Osama/Obama as he destroys this Country. A real man and American would have told Osama/Obama to shove it where the sun don't shine!

One step farther, I'm sorry Stan apologized. He had NO NEED TO. Form or not….this war is officially a CF. You've maybe not got the stomach for it, many don't, and that's okay, but Stan is a one man army, a freakin killin machine. Can cut through an enemy stronghold faster and with more deadly accuracy and force than has been seen in a soldier before or since.

As Obama's theater commander, he was pearls before swine. Obama has squandered more good leadership than Washington, Lincoln and Jackson ever commanded. Fool don't half cover Obama and his approach to this miserable war. He actually makes Karzi look good, and that is no easy chore.

Standstill? Try moving BACKWARDS. The F-22 is getting cut short, the F-35 will likely end up the same way, and modernization of other services such as the Navy is getting hit because of grossly overinflated estimates–since when is a followon SSBN going to cost $14 Billion? We now have airframes over 40 years old (F-15) for fighters, and some strategic air assets upwards of 60 years old in the case of the B-52. Meanwhile, our potential adversaries in the form of the Chinese and the Russians (and don't think they're all sweetness and light just because they changed their name from USSR) are still modernizing, upgrading, and selling their technology to less-than-friendly states like Iran and North Korea. Standing still–you might as well start dragging B-17's and M-4 tanks out of mothballs soon.

Our military technology is at a standstill in deployment of new weaponry, and our standing equipment, especially the air force planes, are worn out from excess usage without replacements due to the Middle East and Bosnian conflicts that were started without any expenditure to acknowledge the more rapid wearing out of equipment brought on by unplanned conflicts. Obama is jeapardizing our entire military operations and soldiers….and Gates is playing bureaucrat politician.

Every indication Gates is more loyal than "certain" others?

I've seen NOTHING from this man except a willingness to cowtow to a President who's never served a day in the military, never done much more than vote "present" in public office, and wouldn't know a military strategy if it bit him, though now that his is biting him, I expect he's gettin a clue. And the only contribution Gates has made that I've seen is a willingness to introduce DADT IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR ZONE FULL OF BATTLE WEARY, STRESSED, HEAVILY ARMED SOLDIERS.

BRILLIANT.

If by more loyal you mean "at Obama's beck and call" then yeh. But his loyalty as Secretary of Defense should at LEAST include THE MILITARY SOMEWHERE ON HIS LIST. He's already gone through two of the most highly decorated generals this Army has to offer, more experienced and skilled in war than Gates will ever be. Tossed them totally under the bus. We'll see if he lets Petraeus actually DO anything except hold press conferences and usher Joe Biden around the war zone.

He knows who his boss is, and he is only too happy to push his policies. Let me re-phrase that:

When you know what you are doing is harming and ultimately crippling your country, and yet you still push for it as hard, or even harder than any policy that might strengthen it, just because your boss says so, what kind of a person does that make you?

We have every indication that Gates is more loyal than certain other establishment military types that come to mind. Though this is commendable in its own way, it doesn't make him right… and it doesn't make Obama's desire to cater to all of America's worst enemies any less awful.
